Press Release: Padgett Asks Bill Lyons and Mayor Brown to Open Pension Study Committee Meetings to the Public

Knoxville, TN -

Dear Mr. Lyons,

I am writing to urge you to reverse your position on the pension study committee for city employees holding some meetings in private. This is fundamentally wrong and appears to violate our state's open meeting law.

As one of the persons to whom this committee might be presenting the report as a candidate for Mayor, I can assure you I strongly prefer the process be conducted in public. City employees are already anxious and worried.  This statement from you only increases that concern.

Please issue a statement acknowledging error and placing this process in the open and in the sunshine in compliance with state law.

Sincerely,

Mark Padgett
