Knoxville News Sentinel: Forum for mayoral candidates focuses on growth, more jobs

One way or another, nearly every topic came back to continued economic growth and job creation - whether the candidates offered a specific approach to it or not - at a forum Thursday night for Knoxville's four mayoral hopefuls.

 

"We need a mayor who speaks the language of business," Mark Padgett, founder of government software provider eGovernment Solutions, told some 40 forum attendees at Fourth United Presbyterian Church on North Broadway.

 

How should the city approach the Magnolia Avenue Corridor Plan? Recruit anchor business tenants, he said. How could Knoxville Area Transit's half-price seniors program be saved from the county budget chopping block? Grow the economy, Padgett said.
