SEN. LOWE FINNEY ENDORSES PADGETT FOR U.S. SENATE
West Tennessee Democratic legislator praises plan for rural economy
State Senator Lowe Finney endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Mike Padgett Thursday and campaigned with him in Jackson.
"Mike Padgett has visited 86 of the 95 counties in this state, showing Tennesseans what the people of Knox County already know," Finney said. "That Mike is a public servant in the truest sense of the word - their concerns will be his mandate in the U.S. Senate.
"Mike has heard the people of rural Tennessee talk about the struggles they face, and he has responded with a sound, innovative roadmap to put prosperity again within their reach." Padgett joined Finney Thursday to meet voters in Jackson, hub of Finney's state Senate district.
"The 27th District is so fortunate to have this bright young mind at work for them," Padgett said. "And I am fortunate to have his support as I work to make all of Tennessee - rural, suburban and urban - vibrant with opportunity once again."
On Thursday, Padgett released his rural economic development plan, "TN 2.0: Rebuilding, From the Farm to the Front Porch." Among his proposals: restoring basic needs, such as a strong minimum wage and lower taxes for the middle class; nurturing new rural economic opportunities, like the growing clean-energy industry; and developing a rural infrastructure that attracts new businesses and good jobs.
"Over and over, I've heard Mike mention 'front-porch issues' - the kinds of things my constituents talk about when they gather with family and friends on their own front porches - gas prices, medical bills, college for the kids," Finney said.
"Those front-porch concerns are what Mike is passionate about, and that passion will take him all the way to the U.S. Senate."
Finney joins several other prominent West Tennesseans endorsing Padgett, including:
Randy Rinks, House Democratic Caucus Chair, Hardin County.
Clark Jones, Former Tennessee Democratic Party Treasurer, Hardin County.
Hansel McCadams, District Attorney, 24th District, Henry County.
Joe Shepard, County Mayor, Gibson County.
Mike Wellons, Bolivar City Councilman, Hardeman County.
Sidney Chism, County Commissioner, Shelby County.
William "Mike" Padgett is former Knox County Clerk and small business owner. He and Patty, his wife of 37 years, have three grown children, Matt, Mark and Sara Beth
